The iSchool provides a shared collection of network storage folders known as the N: Drive (“N” for network). The following directions are for accessing the folders on the N: Drive. The directions presuppose you have the correct permissions to access the N: Drive folders. If you are unsure of your permissions to access the N: Drive, please contact the iSchool IT Help Desk. If you need to map the N: Drive on your computer, use the following server addresses:

Windows: \\netid.washington.edu\ischool
Mac OS: smb://netid.washington.edu/ischool

Fully detailed instructions are below.

The instructions on this page only apply if you are:

a) on campus

OR

b) off campus AND connected to the Husky OnNet VPN Service.

If you are off campus or not able to connect to or use the Husky OnNet VPN, it is still possible to access the N: Drive via FTP.

1) connect to the Husky OnNet VPN

2) continue with the directions below as if directly connected to the wired UW network

1) click the Windows File Explorer button in the lower-left corner of the screen, click N: Drive below This PC

1) connect to the Husky OnNet VPN

2) continue with the directions below as if directly connected to the wired UW network

1) click the Windows File Explorer button in the lower-left corner of the screen, click N: Drive below Computer

Mac OS X connected to a wireless network
1) connect to the Husky OnNet VPN

2) continue with the directions below as if directly connected to the wired UW network

1) start Finder, click Finder, click Preferences, click Sidebar, check the box next to your computer name

2) close the Finder Preferences window

 

3) in Finder click Applications, double-click Self Service (if Self Service is not in Applications, you need to enroll your computer with the iSchool Mac management system)

4) at the Self Service log in screen, for Username use your UW NetID, for Password use your UW NetID password

5) in Self Service, click the iSchool IT category, click INSTALL for the N Drive item

6) the N: Drive will be installed/mapped to your computer, log out then log back in or restart your computer, find the N: Drive folders in Finder by clicking your computer name -> ischool

Windows 8/10

1) connect to the Husky OnNet VPN

 

2) right-click the lower-left Windows icon, click File Explorer, click Computer, click Map network drive

3) in the Map Network Drive window, for Drive: use N:, for Folder: use \\netid.washington.edu\ischool, check Connect using different credentials, click Finish, for User name use the format netid\yourNetID, for Password use your NetID password, click OK

4) the N: Drive and its folders will appear below This PC

Windows 7

1) connect to the Husky OnNet VPN

 

2) click the lower-left Windows icon, click Computer, click Map network drive

3) in the Map Network Drive window, for Drive: use N: (it can really be any letter you want), for Folder: use \\netid.washington.edu\ischool, Reconnect at logon is optional, select Connect using different credentials, enter your username as netid\yourNetID, password is your normal NetID password, click OK

4) find the N: Drive folders listed beneath Computer using File Explorer

Mac OS X

1) (only needs to be done when you are off campus) connect to the Husky OnNet VPN

 

2) open Finder, click Preferences…, click Sidebar, check the box next to your computer name, close the Finder Preferences window

3) in Finder, click Go, click Connect to Server… (⌘ + K on your keyboard)

4) for Server Address: use smb://netid.washington.edu/ischool, click the plus (+) button, click Connect, select Connect as: Registered User, for Name:, use netid\yourNetID, for Password: use your NetID password

5) Finder will open a folder titled ischool with all of the N: Drive folders, you can also find the N: Drive folders in Finder by clicking your computer name -> ischool
