Directions on this page are for adding an iSchool printer to your personal laptop. If you are using an iSchool issued Windows computer, you do not need to manually configure printers. If you are using an iSchool issued Windows computer, and a printer you want to print to is not available to you, contact the iSchool IT Help Desk.

Directions for adding a printer to a personal computer:
Windows 10
Windows 8

macOS versions 10.10 through 10.13

 

Windows 10

1. Find the IP address and the make and model of the printer you would like to use. IP addresses should be labeled in plain sight on each printer. If you are unable to determine a printer’s IP address or model, contact the iSchool IT Help Desk.

 

2. press the Windows key on your keyboard to start searching, start typing Printers & scanners, click Printers & scanners in the search results

3. click Add a printer or scanner

4. the computer will look for available printers, after a few seconds it will give up, click the button that appears: The printer that I want isn’t listed

5. click Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname, click Next

6. enter the IP address from step 1 into the Hostname or IP address field, click Next

7. find the printer manufacturer of the printer you are adding, e.g. Ricoh, select the available driver, click Next

8. type in a name for the printer, click Next

9. click Do not share this printer, click Next

10. you should receive a “success” message, click Finish

Windows 8

1. Find the IP address and the make and model of the printer you would like to use. IP addresses should be labeled in plain sight on each printer. If you are unable to determine a printer’s IP address or model, contact the iSchool IT Help Desk.

 

2. right-click the lower-left Windows icon, click Control Panel

3. click View devices and printers

4. click Add a printer, click The printer that I want isn’t listed

5. click Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname, click Next

6. enter the printer IP address from step 1 into the Hostname or IP address: field, click Next

7. you should see a “…successfully added printer…” message, adjust the printer name if necessary, click Next

8. click Do not share this printer, click Next

9. you should see another “…successfully added printer…” message, click Finish

macOS versions 10.10 through 10.13

1. Find the IP address of the printer you would like to use. IP addresses should be labeled in plain sight on each printer. If you are unable to determine a printer’s IP address, contact the iSchool IT Help Desk.

 

2. click the top-left Apple icon, click System Preferences…

 

3. click Printers & Scanners

 

4. click the plus (+) icon, click Add Printer or Scanner…

5. click IP, use the following settings:

Address: enter the IP address you found from step 1.
Protocol: Line Printer Daemon – LPD
Queue: leave blank
Name: can be anything you want, use something that makes it clear what it is
Location: gets filled in automatically
Use: *should* get selected automatically, if not, select the make and model of the printer, make and model of the printer should be apparent on the printer

click Add

6. you should see the printer added with a green light indicating it is ready to print to
