The Information School offers superb computing facilities for enrolled students. Three distinct facilities are available:

  • The Computer Classroom is located in Mary Gates Hall (MGH) room 430.
  • The Technology Exploration (TE) Lab is located in room MGH 440.
  • An agreement with CSE provides the iSchool with exclusive access to both rooms in the Introductory Programming Learning Commons (IPLC) located in MGH 334 and 342 from 8:30am – 1:30pm M-F, except Tuesdays when the lab is exclusively for CSE use.

Other facilities accessible from within the TE Lab:

  • The Quiet Study Lab, a space designed to facilitate individual work without noise distractions (MGH 440A).
  • The Virtual Reality Lab, a space configured with two Windows desktops with VR software and mounted motion tracking sensors for use with the HTC Vive (MGH 440B).

The equipment in the iSchool Computer Labs is largely funded through UW Student Tech Fee (STF) awards. Because of this, the iSchool is required to allow students from other departments to use the facilities, although iSchool students always have priority.

For further details about the iSchool labs, including current hardware and software, please visit this website.

For more information on lab and network resources, including video tutorials, view iPrep’s Network Resources section.

Important Note

Beverages in reusable, spill-proof containers are permitted in the Computer Labs.Food and gum are not permitted in any of our labs. Please use the student lounge (a.k.a. iSalon) in MGH 420 instead. It’s on the same floor down the hallway, next door to the computer classroom.
