Operating system settings

Below is a list of optional OS settings. The intent of changing these settings is for performance improvements and aesthetic.

(Some settings might not be available to everyone. Some settings may already be configured.)

Mac OS 10.10 or 10.11
Windows 10

 

Mac OS X settings
reduce transparency
turn on scroll bars

 

Reduce transparency

1) click the top-left Apple icon, click System Preferences…

2) click Accessibility

3) check the box next to Reduce transparency

turn on scroll bars

1) click the top-left Apple icon, click System Preferences…

2) click General

3) under Show scroll bars:, select Always

Windows 10 settings
Turn off Windows tips
Turn off suggestions in Start menu

 

Turn off Windows tips

1) click the lower-left Windows icon, click Settings

2) click System

3) click Notifications & actions, turn off “Show me tips about Windows”

Turn off suggestions in Start menu

1) click the lower-left Windows icon, click Settings

2) click Personalization

3) click Start, turn off “Occasionally show suggestions in Start”
