The iSchool uses a program called CrashPlan to back up files on iSchool issued computers. The program runs automatically and silently in the background and sits in the notification area:

Note: CrashPlan does not backup folders for these popular cloud storage services:

Dropbox
Google Drive
OneDrive
OneDrive for Business
Box Sync

 

There are two ways to restore/download files from the iSchool CrashPlan backup server:

Restore files via a web browser (something you can do on any computer with an Internet connection)

Restore files via the CrashPlan application (something you can do only on a computer with the CrashPlan application installed)

 

Restore files via a web browser

This method should only be use to download a few files. If you need to restore more than a few files, use the CrashPlan application restore method.

1) sign into http://ischool.uw.edu/crashplan, for username use the yourNetID@uw.edu format, for password use your UW NetID password

2) if you see a CrashPlan welcome splash screen, it’s okay to check Don’t show this again, then click the top-right X button

3) click Devices

4) click the Restore button Restore Button

5) select the date of the file(s) in the Restore files as of: field, select the files or folders you want to restore from the file tree, click Restore

6) in the lower-left corner of the web page, click the Click here to download button

7) save the file(s) to wherever you like on the computer you’re currently using

Restore files via the CrashPlan application on a Mac

1) start the CrashPlan application

 

2) click the Get Files button for the computer you want to get files from

3) select the check boxes for the folder(s) and file(s) you want to restore, click the “As Of…” button to select the date (version) to restore from, click Get Files…

4) in the Get Files Options window, select where to restore the file(s) to, what to do if the file(s) already exists, and the permissions for the restored file(s), click Go

 

5) the file(s) will be downloaded to your computer to the location you specified in step 04, a “Download Activity” window will appear allowing you to monitor the restore process

Restore files via the CrashPlan application on Windows

1) start the CrashPlan application

 

2) click the Get Files button for the computer you want to get files from
