These instructions will allow you to connect to MS SQL Server using Windows Authentication (your NetID and password) from iSchool lab computers. You will not need these steps when connecting from a faculty, staff, or Ph.D. computer owned by the UW as they are domain joined. There are extra steps required if you are connecting from a lab machine. There are different steps required to connect from a computer that is not managed by the iSchool.


Here are the steps for connecting:

1) In the start menu find SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS). Right click and select “Open File Location”.

2) You’ll have a new File Explorer window open and you should see a shortcut to SQL Server Management Studio. Hold Shift and Right click on this, then select “Send to” then select “Run as a different user”.

3) A Login window will appear. Enter your NetID with the prefix NETID\ and your password and press OK.

4) You should now have an SSMS Window open and you should be able to connect as normal from this point.
