You can set up your UW email for Skype by signing up for a Microsoft account. By using your UW email address when creating your Microsoft account, you gain access to Microsoft services such as Skype and OneDrive (formerly known as SkyDrive).

Any application or service that requires a Microsoft account login (such as Microsoft OneDrive) is administered by Microsoft and is not supported by any University of Washington IT organization.


To link your UW email to a Microsoft account, follow these steps:

1. Sign up for a new Microsoft account here.

2. Fill out the information requested in the form. Enter your UW email address into the account name field. Once the form in completed, wait for the form to load and bring you to the account overview screen.

3. There will be a prompt at the top of the screen asking you to verify your email address. You should have an email from Microsoft in your UW email inbox with a link to verify your address, click on it and you’ll be brought to a new confirmation window asking you to log in.

4. Once your account is verified by Microsoft, you can log into your Skype client with your UW email-linked Microsoft account by clicking on ‘Microsoft account’ on the right half of the Skype application and filling in your username and password.
