With UW’s adoption of Microsoft Office 365, one of the tools available to you, is the 25GB cloud storage and local file sync feature of OneDrive for Business. After initial setup of OneDrive for Business, it’s possible to sync the files in your OneDrive for Business online storage space, with your local computer. This means that changes made to the files on your computer will be reflected in the OneDrive for Business online storage space and vice versa:


To Sync your OneDrive for Business documents to your computer:

1) if you are using Microsoft Office 2013, proceed to step 2, if you are using Microsoft Office 2010, download and install the OneDrive for Business sync client

2) using Internet Explorer, log into the Office 365 web portal; username =, click Sign in, enter UW NetID and password at the UW NetID Weblogin page

3) click OneDrive, click Sync

4) click Sync now

5) click Allow for any and all web browser security prompts

6) click Sync Now in the “Ready to sync your…” window

The files from your OneDrive for Business cloud storage will then be copied to and synced with your local computer. This folder on your local computer is in C:\users\yourNetID\OneDrive @ UW Office 365 or C:\users\yourNetID\OneDrive for Business. There is also a shortcut in your Favorites in Windows File Explorer:

There are restrictions and limitations for file name and file size for documents synced to your computer. For full details about file name and file size sync restrictions, read Microsoft’s documentation here.
